Ori, son of Dalia and Avi and grandson of Jack Borenstein , was born in Haifa on Shabbat Chanukah, 30 Kislev 5752 (7.12.91).<\/p>

Ori's second name Moshe, was in memory of his uncle and also his great-grandfather Moshe Nisenbaum<\/a><\/span>, who was shot by the Nazis when caught hiding with his family.<\/p>

After graduating Yeshiva High School in Sde Yaakov, he studied at the \"Maoz\" Mechina ( pre-military preparatory school) in Lod and continued at the \"Or Yeshua\" Hesder Yeshiva in Haifa, where he combined religious studies with significant military service as a soldier and commander in the Shimshon Battalion in the Kfir Brigade.
After his military service, he returned to study at the yeshiva in Haifa. Upon completing the Hesder program, he continued his studies for a degree in mechanical engineering at Ariel University, and in recent years had worked as a mechanical engineer.
Ori was loved by everyone and was with a unique sense of humor. His love of traveling led him to many places in Israel and around the world. He excelled in his capoeira training and breakdancing, which expressed his lively spirit, and he brought happiness to his friends at weddings.
Ori was drafted for emergency reserve duty on October 7th, 2023 when Hamas invaded Israel. Since then, he served for about 3 months in Gaza as a combat soldier in a logistics support unit.
Later in 2024, just before Rosh Hashana, he was called once again to serve his country.\nOri died heroically before Yom Kippur, on the 8th of Tishrei 5775 (10.10.24) in a battle in Jabalia Gaza, along with two other IDF soldiers who served with him (Zvi Marantz and Netanel Hershkowitz).<\/p>

Ori Scenic Lookout Project<\/h1>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

The Moreshet community, in cooperation with Tikvat Moreshet Charity, the Borenstein Family, and Friends of Ori Borenstein H\u201dYD, have commenced planning for the Ori Scenic Lookout project.<\/p>

The project will develop a scenic lookout overlooking areas of Northern Israel and will include a deck, sitting area, a wall of memory and Amud (prayer column) pointing in the direction of Jerusalem.<\/p>

Youth of Moreshet and the surrounding Galilee area will be able to visit the scenic observation point and participate in various educational activities, including learning about the heroes of Israel - many of whom have sacrificed their lives within the last year in order to help others.<\/p>

Ori deserves to be remembered as a true light in this world. He was devoted to his family and everyone that knew him felt he was the glue that kept his whole family together. He embodied the role of older brother, protector; he was so loving and emotionally in touch. He was mature and wise beyond his years and extremely intelligent.<\/p>

As a descendant of Holocaust survivors, he was continuing to fight for our continuity as Jewish people and he did so steadfast and without hesitation. He never for a second thought of himself first – always put others before himself.<\/p>
